The Importance of Reading Aloud to Children

Research continues to show that reading aloud to children is of great importance.  We do it...

  • to entertain
  • to arouse curiosity
  • to inspire
  • to create or strengthen a positive attitude about reading
  • to strengthen children's reading, writing, and speaking skills

It is known to improve children's listening comprehension, which must come before reading comprehension. It is this the listening vocabulary that is a reservoir of words that feeds the reading vocabluary pool. (Jim Trelease)
